Get Involved

As an all-volunteer organization, there are many ways for you to participate with us. You can help plan our programs, bring new ideas to our community, assist with implementing our events, support our communications, facilitate sitting groups, and more.

Volunteering is an offer of dāna to our community and enables us to practice generosity within a community of practitioners. It is also a way to meet new teachers and others practicing the Dharma.

We welcome you to consider any of the groups summarized below. Just complete the interest form at the bottom of this page!

All committees meet virtually, typically over Zoom.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE Irene@insightsd.org

The Program Committee plans, supports and develops programs and events that advance ISD’s mission to provide a safe, comfortable, inclusive and welcoming environment for people to study and practice the dharma.  

Specific Tasks

• Propose and discuss ideas for new events, classes, retreats, and residencies

• Host and run online Dharma talks

• Find and communicate with teachers for various talks, retreats and events

• Input admin forms and communicate with Informatics and Marketing to post and promote various programs

• Plan and manage retreats and day longs

• Work with Facilities Coordinator or facility to schedule various events and offerings

RETREAT COMMITTEE  Steven@insightsd.org

The members of the Retreat Committee plan and implement two major annual events. Both are led by well-known dharma teachers.

Specific Tasks

• Selects the event teacher, sets dates, budget, fees, and scholarships

• Coordinates with venue manager and venue's kitchen staff

• Works with Volunteer Coordinator to ensure all volunteer roles are covered

• Collaborates with Informatics and Marketing on publicity (including website, emails and social media)

• Holds post-retreat debriefing with teacher

• Reviews follow-up survey data and takes appropriate actions

INFORMATICS COMMITTEE Hal@insightsd.org

This committee is responsible for communicating to our community via our digital resources including our website, event registration, emailing and social media systems.

Specific Tasks

• Provides ideas for our digital presence and our communications

• Maintains and improves web pages

• Produces and sends our email communications

• Posts to and supports our social media accounts

• Maintains our event registration system and our online calendar

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE mark.w@insightsd.org

Members work with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure all our events have the right volunteers to be successful.

 EVENT SUPPORTERS mark.w@insightsd.org

Our Event Supporters help make our events a success by assisting with the setup or take down of events, posting signage, staffing registration, site beautification, setup of drinks/snack table, and supporting audio needs.
